This study is a team effort. In a proactive move, longline fishermen out of Sitka brought the problem to the attention of managers and scientists. Ten skippers with vessels and crew were recruited participation in the SEASWAP project. There was a two-season commitment by participants in the SEASWAP core team. In addition to maintaining a logbook, they took photographs of all sperm whales near their vessels and maintained a film logbook as well.
